Visual Design
Visual design is a creative process that involves combining visual elements such as colors, shapes, typography, and images with the goal to create designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional.
Other process steps come before the visual design, such as creating an information architecture (IA) to structure and organize information. Visual design then develops these structures in graphic form, e.g. via the design of intuitive navigation systems.
Good visual design is characterized by the fact that relevant information is easy to find, clearly recognizable, legible, and well-arranged. This creates a positive user experience and increases both user trust and product satisfaction. Corporate, brand, or product messages are communicated clearly and unambiguously. This is achieved by using corporate design as a foundation and expanding it as needed.
The result is a set of detailed screens that convey the look and feel of the final product. A style guide provides an overview of all visual elements in their various states, use cases, and exceptions. This forms the basis for development and ensures that the design is implemented consistently and coherently.
Nice to know:
Visual design and interaction design often go hand in hand. The screens developed in visual design provide the ideal foundation for creating a high-fidelity prototype that simulates realistic interactions.
