D-LABS monobox project comes to a successful close
Monobox integrates various online services into a single Internet application tool. This solution is to be realized towards the end of 2008. It will allow users to converse in chat and emails, conduct product research and purchases at various online stores such as Amazon etc. The advantages are obvious: A user-centric consistent design guarantees maximum comfort while one is conducting daily Internet routines. You have the ability to centralize and maintain different identities. Your personal data, such as delivery address for instance, can be used across multiple applications. Online safety is enhance as one does not have to store or remember multiple passwords, only one master password is needed.

During a 10-week project with monobox GmbH, D-LABS evaluated the overall concept and developed different suggestions for improvement. Both the format and the conceptual framework were iterated. The project was divided into three distinct phases: a multidisciplinary team, who held qualitative interviews with potential users of the software, conducted the first step. This was followed by an expert evaluation of the application whereby the application potentials and problem areas were identified. Based on these two steps new ideas and suggestions for improvement were generated. Promising new ideas regarding the interaction design emerged as well as proposals about how to further expand synergies with other services.
The enhancements of the concept were picked up positively. Oskar von Dungern, CEO of monobox GmbH summed up the project: “Both, the interviews with potential users and the exchange with Usability Experts gave us interesting insights. We may not realize all ideas at this stage but we definitely feel that our usability concept has advanced.“
